Troubleshooting Steps

Please try completing the troubleshooting steps below in the order presented.

Ensure your Pokémon GO app is up to date

Pokémon GO works best when using the newest version of the app. If you’re experiencing an issue with an older version of the app, please update your Pokémon GO app and see if this fixes the problem for you.

  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. Touch Updates.
  3. Navigate to the Pokémon GO app and touch the Update button.

Check your internet connection

Ensure your device is connected to a reliable data connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G). Try switching internet sources: if you have trouble connecting to Wi-Fi, try to connect using 3G or 4G. If you have trouble connecting to 3G or 4G, try to connect using Wi-Fi.

Use automatic system time

Make sure that your device’s time and date is set to update automatically. You can update your system time using your device’s Settings app.

  1. Open the Settingsapp on your device.
  2. Under SettingsGeneral > Date & Time, turn on the Set Automatically

Clear Safari data

Pokémon GO uses Safari to log into Pokémon GO. By clearing Safari’s data, you may be able to resolve some connectivity issues.

  1. Open the Settings appon your device.
  2. Select Safari AdvancedWebsite Data.
  3. Touch Clear History and Data.

Uninstall and reinstall Pokémon GO

Delete the Pokémon GO app and reinstall the latest official version from the Apple App Store. Your game progress will not be lost by performing these steps, as all game progress is stored online.

Information to include with your removal request

Please include the following information with your request to avoid any processing delays:

  1. Latitude and Longitude (optional but helpful)
    Latitude and longitude GPS coordinates are numerical data used to locate a point on the map. While this information is optional, it greatly helps expedite your request. Learn how to get the GPS coordinates of a location using Google Maps.
  2. Owner verification for removals on private property (non-residential)
    We take extra verification steps to ensure that removal requests reflect the desires of the property owners or senior executives of the organization that owns the property. If you are a property owner or senior executive and would like to report an issue with a game location, please include one of the following items to ensure we can process your request without any delays:

    • Submit the request using an email address associated with the organization.
    • Include a scanned copy of your business card.
    • Attach a letter written on official letterhead of the organization.
    • If you are reaching out to us on behalf of the owner/senior executive, please include their name, title, phone number and email address.
  3. Images (where applicable)
    In some cases, a picture can help us understand the reasons you are requesting removal.  Please include an image if it could provide context about your removal request.

Pokémon GO Common Problems And How To Fix Them

 Pokémon GO Crashes Or Performs Slowly


One of the most common problems on both, Android and iPhone is app-related as users are often complaining about crashing issues. Also, an app can perform slowly at times, and when it comes to games, this can be quite annoying.


Many players reported the problem with Pokémon GO, saying the app is often laggy and it occasionally crashes. If you are experiencing the same problem, you need to make sure you have the latest version of Pokémon GO.


If you own an Android device, open Google Play, tap on three horizontal lines located in the top-right corner, and then tap My apps & games. Find Pokémon GO on the list of apps you have installed, and if you see “Update” right next to the name of the app, tap on it and get the latest version.


If you are playing Pokémon GO on iPhone, open App Store and tap on Updates in the lower-right corner. Tap on Pokémon GO to update it.


The latest version of the app came with the stability improvements, thus, the crashes and slow performance should disappear once you update the app.


Tip for Android users: clear Pokémon GO cache. To do that, go to Settings > Apps > Downloaded, find Pokémon GO and tap on it. Tap Clear cache.

Pokémon GO Freezes


The game may become unresponsive and it may happen at the moment when you are trying to catch a Pokémon. You need to close the app first.


If you are using iPhone, tap on the Home button two times, swipe left or right to find Pokémon GO and then swipe up to close it.

On Android, tap on the square icon located in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and you will open Recent apps. Find Pokémon GO and swipe right to close it.


Once you close Pokémon GO, turn the Airplane mode on. Launch the app again, and you will see “No internet connectivity” message. Turn the Airplane mode off.


Keep in mind an app may freeze when too many applications run in the background. It is advisable to close the ones you don’t use at the moment. You can also restart your Smartphone and launch the app again.




What To Do If Pokémon GO Won’t Open?


You are so ready to play the game and Pokémon GO won’t open? Most of the times, the main reason why you can’t open the game is because the servers are not working. Before you try other solutions, make sure the servers are actually working. You can see current server status on Pokémon GO Server Status web page. If you can open the app but you see a spinning Pokeball, it means that your Smartphone is trying to connect to the server. The spinning ball usually vanishes in a couple of seconds, but if it stays it means the servers are down at the moment.


Other workarounds:


  • Update the app
  • Restart your Smartphone
  • Remove the app from your device and install it again. Data of the game is stored on the cloud meaning once you sign into the game you will be able to start where you left off.



Pokémon GO “GPS Signal Not Found”


  • GPS must be enabled because it shows the app your movement and tells your current location. You may see “GPS signal not found” error right after you launch the game, but the error usually disappears after a couple of seconds. On Android, go to Settings > Location, and make sure “Location” is turned on. Also, tap “Location mode” and select “High accuracy” option.

Use Offline Maps–  Tips


You Updated The App And You Are Level 1 Again


Some people who recently updated Pokémon GO noticed they are level 1 again. If you face the same issue, log out of the app. Tap on the Poké Ball to access the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Sign Out. Sign back in.


Pokémon GO Eating The Battery


  • Pokémon GO is a pretty demanding game. Data and GPS must be enabled, the screen is on all the time and you will also use the camera view while playing. So, it is not surprising to see so many people complaining how Pokémon GO eating the battery. There are a couple of things to do:


  • Open Pokémon GO, and tap on Poke Ball to access the Settings. Tap Battery Saver.


  • If you have many apps that are currently running in the background, and you don’t need them at the moment, close them.
  • Turn off music, sound, and other effects. Also, turn the Vibration off.



Pokémon GO Trainer Isn’t Moving


If the trainer is not moving, first try to access the menu by tapping on the Poke Ball and if the menu can’t open it means the app crashed. You will have to restart the game.


Android – tap on Recent apps icon, find the app and tap on “X” to close the app.


iPhone – tap on the Home button twice and you will get a preview of the apps you have been using. Swipe left or right and once you find Pokémon, swipe up to close it.


Pokémon Eggs Won’t Hatch


If your egg won’t hatch, you need to make sure that you walked a certain distance (make sure the app is open while you are walking). You may see 3/3km, but once you click on the egg, you may notice 2.99/3km. Walk a bit more, and the egg should hatch.

You Don’t See Pokemon Around


If you can’t find Pokémon around, it may be because the app may crash in the background – if that’s the case you won’t see any Pokémon or Pokéstops. Once you restart the app, it should show Pokémon and Pokéstops again.


The other reason why you don’t see Pokémon around may be because you are currently in the quite area. You will find Pokémon when you move to the busy areas.


To attract more Pokémon you can use Incense and Lure Module. Incense and Lure Modules can be purchased in the shop, but you can also get them as you level up. Incense lasts for half an hour. Lure Module will attract Pokémon to Pokestops.


Make sure you have the latest version of the app.
